As you may already know, running an app can have many hidden costs involved. We have to pay and account for; cloud servers, cloud computing, data & image storage and transfer of terabytes of data each month, image analysis for OCR, techy time to develop for new devices and OS updates, etc. etc. and on top of all of this, apple & google take 15-50% of each purchase including taxes!
Some apps offer one-off fees and are often simplistic. These have little backend support or data, transfer, storage and can have low overheads to run.
The CookBook app is a combination of ongoing & evolving services which we call SaaS, Software as a Service. This means running cloud based software services, hosting data and images, improving the cross platform apps, etc.
All of this requires continued investment to pay our partners and service providers, and we've opted not to spam you with adverts or affiliations and pushed products.
Our supported sites continue to grow day-after-day. We offer Cloud backup and synchronization, unlimited recipe and image storage, unlimited OCR image analysis, etc. across our backend servers. This requires ongoing investment to host, manage and transfer data.
Many other apps are charging more for their subscriptions or chose to release new apps every few years and charge for the new download for each device, plus website/desktop app use. We've opted for an all in one option to keep it simple!
Why is everyone changing to a subscription?
With the pace of the ever evolving technology world - the software development task is never finished.
There is always a new phone, operating system, website, etc. that requires continuous time spent on development and support. Due to this, many companies are now choosing to move across to a SaaS based model to help pay for the continuous cost and time required to maintain and develop an app.
We are committed to providing you the ultimate recipe management experience for many years to come which is one of the reasons at CookBook, we've decided to opt for this model too.
You can check out our public roadmap and ideas/suggestion page. We love hearing from our users and we've put all our feedback together and made it public. You can now see what we are currently working on, what's next and vote on/submit ideas!
